Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut.
Momella Gate (1500 m) is the starting point of your journey, where you'll meet your trekking guide and portersĀ and acquire permits. Hike across wide grasslands, cross the Ngare Nanyuki River, and climb through animal-rich mountain forests that are home to black and white colobus monkeys and buffaloes. Reach Miriakamba Hut (2541 m) and spend the night there.
Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut.
Set out on a challenging ascent through verdant alpine forests to reach Elephant Ridge, which provides expansive crater views. After lunch at Saddle Hut (3570 m), hike on to Little Meru (3794 m) for breathtaking sunset views. Head back to Saddle Hut to spend the night.
Day 3: Saddle Hut to Summit (4566 m) and Return.
When the sun comes up, begin your ascent between one and two in the morning, climbing sharply to Rhino Point (3850 m) and then following a narrow ridge to Socialist Peak (4566 m). Savor the amazing views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surroundings. Make your way back down to Saddle Hut for a well-earned break.
Day 4: Descent to Momella Gate.
Choose from shorter or longer routes that offer opportunities to see wildlife and beautiful scenery as you descend from Miriakamba Hut. When you reach Momella Gate, you can say goodbye to your trekking group and head back to Moshi or Arusha.
